JAM launches Christmas campaign
HONEYDEW – Jam South Africa launches its Share The Joy Christmas Campaign.
Non-profit organisation Joint Aid Management (JAM) South Africa recently launched its Share The Joy Christmas Campaign.
Focused on early childhood nutrition, the organisation in Honeydew provides millions of nutrient-rich meals each year to children every school day.
This Christmas, JAM’s focus is to ask people to share the joy of changing children’s lives by giving them a Christmas gift of great value – a red bowl filled with nutritious porridge for the whole of 2016. This costs as little as R30 a month or R360 a year per child.
With more than two million hungry children in South Africa and one in four mentally and physically underdeveloped due to a lack of nutrition, the need for this programme is urgent and real. JAM aims to expand its effective programmes to reach more than 100 000 children every school day in 2016, an increase of 28 200 children.
Symbolised by its signature red bowls, JAM South Africa’s feeding programme is focused on children under the age of six who attend day-cares and crèches located in informal settlements.
Every school day, each child is given a 50g portion of fortified, pre-cooked corn sugar soya, and porridge that contains 75 per cent of a child’s daily nutritional needs. By focusing on the most economically and socially vulnerable children in the most crucial phase of their lives, JAM knows that they are building a future filled with joy for these children. JAM’s belief, born out of 31 years of experience, is that without education there can be no development and that hungry children cannot learn to the best of their abilities.
JAM South Africa’s managing director, David Brown said, “We encourage everyone who cares about the future of South Africa to fill a red bowl. We invite all individuals and corporates to partner with us this Christmas to share the joy of reducing hunger, one child at a time.”
