A couple of weeks ago I wrote about our experience with the installation of a new Smart, electricity meter.

It was incorrectly installed by incompetent contractors and had the potential to burn the entire house down.

Fortunately, City Power arrived the following morning and rectified the mess that the contractors had made.

Since then, we have had five different sets of City Power employees banging on our gate and traipsing through our house to ‘test the meter’ I can understand one or even two lots, but five?

When does ‘testing’ become blatant harassment? You have tested it, it’s fine, move on! They arrive at various times of the day almost demanding access because their job card says so.

They always carry a piece of paper with them stating that they are entitled to access your property at any time according to some ridiculous law and if you don’t acquiesce to their request, City Power has the authority to switch you off and remove their equipment.

Although having no power is hardly anything new these days with their boneheaded mismanagement.

Today we have just been informed by the tenant in our granny flat that our City Power friends were here…. again!

They wanted to be let in to the house to test the meter. The tenant informed them that he did not have the keys to the house and wouldn’t let them in if he did. They then demanded to see my mother (the owner of the property) who happened to be out at the time.

This is no longer getting ridiculous, it has become downright frustratingly farcical.

They can’t get your billing right, try burning your house down and then become proficient at bedevilling people who always pay their account in full. How about hassling people who don’t?

Please City Power, what do we need to do to make you stop?
