Ruimsig Country Club hosts annual golf challenge

RUIMSIG – Ruimsig Country Club hosts their 26th annual Jeanne Powell Ladies Open golf competition.

Ruimsig Country Club hosted its 26th annual Jeanne Powell Ladies Open on the 17th of November at the Country Club.

Ruimsig Country Club marketing manager Samantha Hance said a 133 ladies participated who represented over 29 golf clubs globally.

“The annual Jeanne Powell Ladies Open is Ruimsig Country Club’s largest ladies’ competition to date,” said Hance.

Karen Balt, member of Ruimsig Country Club, together with her four-ball: Di Schlebush from Bryanston Country Club, Sandy Stewart from Durban Country Club and Jane Ditburner from Kyalami Country Club, were the 2015 winners of the competition.

The women accumulated 93 points on a four-ball alliance format with two scores to count.

She added that the Ruimsig Country Club Ladies’ Committee tasked their members to create a four-ball by inviting three lady members from different golf clubs.

“This tradition was started by Jeanne Powell in 1989, the club’s first ever ladies’ captain. Powell started the competition to encourage visitors to play and familiarise themselves with Ruimsig Country Club. The event started as a three-ball alliance with one Ruimsig member and two visitors. Today the Jeanne Powell Ladies Open boasts a four-ball alliance with three visitors, since the event has become so popular among the ladies,”said Hance.

Ruimsig Country Club’s 2015 captain Lynette Fuls said Jeanne Powell has relocated to Durban but her tradition is still kept alive at the Country Club.

Hance concluded by saying the day was ended off with a prize giving followed by a four-course meal.

“This year was no exception, and the ladies enjoyed a Mexican fiesta, with live entertainment and models showcasing the Beautiful Me golf range.

“No one leaves the Jeanne Powell Ladies Open empty handed, since each Ruimsig County Club member brings a prize for an entire four-ball, so the ladies can choose which prize they wish to take home,” Hance explained.

CEO of Ruimsig Country Club Gary Geddes said he is proud of the Ladies Committee and all of the members who have gone through a lot of trouble to make the event successful.
