Tensions were high in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court yesterday when Presiding Officer, Delise Smit postponed the dog abuse case for the fourth time this year.
The case is postponed until today to give the accused and his new legal representative time to consult with each other. The accused has never consulted with his attorney before and they met for the first time today in court.
The 63-year-old man who in February allegedly beat his Greyhound dog to the extent that the dog had to be euthanised, was arrested on charges of animal abuse. He beat the dog until he was unconscious because he allegedly ate his own feaces.

Smit promised a trial date will be fixed for today because the case has been pending for too long.
