“On 9 November the top 22 were selected for the finals out of the 69 semi-finalists and on 10 November the two winners were announced. This year’s competition was tough as the talent was astonishing,” said Soloist for Christ producer, Anthonie Bougas.

He announced Stephan Bezuidenhout as the winner in the senior category and Gustav Els in the junior category.

The competition was opened with a performance by Dream Dance Academy students from Middelburg, it was followed by Bougas himself.

Bougas started Soloist for Christ six years ago however, the show has only been available on the Afrikaans channel kykNET for the last two years.

He said this year’s competition has been running since 3 August and entries were accepted from Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Freestate and the North West provinces.

The age groups in the junior category were from seven years to 13 years and the senior category from 14 to 18 years

Bougas said he is proud of the outcome of this year’s competition and is looking forward to Soloist for Christ 2016.

The two winners each received prizes worth R58 000.

“Both winners received a CD recording, a music video recording, the print of their first 100 CDs, the writing of one single and R5 000 cash,” said Bougas.

Head judge and local pianist Martin Lane said the competition presented an excellent opportunity for the children to show off their talents.

“The competition gave youngsters the chance to promote themselves and, of course, to land a spot in the limelight,” said Lane.
