Christmas Market promises to be a sunny, fun-filled morning
RUIMSIG – The Gateway Society will be hosting their Christmas Market where gifts can be bought and tummies filled.
The Gateway Society in Ruimsig will host a Christmas Market on 28 November at the Gateway Village. “We have 95 permanent residents to look after and we need the financial means to do so,” said Moira Short, fundraising manager at the society.
The Gateway Society has a school as well as a village as part of their society. The school caters for children up to 18 years old with mental and/or physical disabilities. According to Short, these children are not able to keep a job or care for themselves after completing school. They need a place to stay. The Gateway Village then houses them, with six houses accommodating up to 12 people. “We need funds in order for us to maintain a loving and caring environment for our residents. We want them to have a normal as possible life,” said Short. The Christmas Market will play an important role in generating funds for the cause.
According to Short, the society has day workers who work in the two workshops at the society. “They will be selling some of the products that they made throughout the year. It is an ideal place to buy unique Christmas gifts,” said Short. She added that they also offer to members of the public to have a stall at the market for a minimum fee. Aside from selling hand-made gifts, the market will have entertainment, food, as well as a little train that provides rides for the children.
“We want the community to realise that we are here for them, we as a society wants to be a blessing, not a burden,” Short concluded.
The Christmas Market will take place at the Gateway Village between 9am and 1pm.
