Association focuses on learner safety

Focus on children's safety during Transport Month.

With October being Transport Month, Siyazifukula Learner Transport Association held an awareness campaign in Horison yesterday (22 October).

The aim of the association is for those who have children using transportation companies to ferry their children to school and back to know those involved.

“We need our children to be safe on the roads as they travel to school and we are committed to do our best to achieve that. We are transporting the future of this country,” said the association’s chairperson Bheki Ziqubu.

The association has been working with JMPD’s Ouma Morudi who has been assisting the association to make sure their drivers follow the rules of the road and make travel safer for everyone.

The association is proud to have permits to ferry children and transport those who will be traveling to different provinces during the December period. All their transportation vehicles have first aid kits.

“We transport children and they get hurt sometimes. Our drivers will be able to assist with their injuries,” he said.

Ziqubu also urged all those who transport children to schools to belong to an association so they can become actively involved in ensuring the safety of all children.

“The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not produce more followers,” he said.

The offices of the association are located at Sunshine Plaza in the Roodepoort CBD and for more information contact Ziqubo on 072 1250 456 or Khumo Dibakwane on 084 8662 621.
