Monash hosts student forum
RUIMSIG – Monash University South Africa participates in the nation-wide university shutdown.
The nationwide shut-down hit Monash University South Africa on 21 October.
Students at the university received emails notifying them that classes were suspended.
The statement read, “Please note that the campus and library services will remain open today, but all classes and academic activities will be suspended.”

Monash’ statement added, “The meeting was led by Academic President Professor Alwyn Louw and COO Nicolene Murdoch, who listened to the concerns and requests made by the students. Management reassures students that the issues raised would be attended to and the management will continue to facilitate student forums.”
Many students still attended university to participate in the Student Forum that was hosted at 11am.
Honeydew Police were present in order to monitor the situation.
Prof Alwyn Louw reiterated, “Ensuring the safety of our students and staff is our greatest priority.
We will continue to engage with our students to address concerns while ensuring limited interruption to the academic calendar.”
According to Twitter under #MonashFeesMustFall Monash students seem to be divided in the protest.
