Bands battle it out for big prize
WELTEVREDEN PARK – Stakes are high at the Battle of the Bands competition at Rumours Lounge. With time flying fast bands can still audition throughout October to secure themselves a spot in the semi-finals.
Bands have been battling it out at Rumours Lounge in order to secure a spot in the Rumours Lounge Battle of the Bands.
With nine bands already claiming their spots at the semi-finals in November, the competition is heating up. Club manager Simon Foulds said that October was the last month for bands and acoustic artists to perform at this year’s Battle 4 Rumours which takes place on Sunday afternoons at Rumours in Weltevreden Park.
“Above Atlas, Madhouse Theory, Down With the Beat, Held on Till May, Amber Light Choices, Neo Galaxy, Rescind, Necramoth and Black Dusk, have already taken a few spots for the semi-finals,” Foulds added. With over 30 bands and a similar number of acoustic artists that have participated in auditions so far.
Foulds said that bands and acoustic artists are judged on their musical performance and stage presence, which he added makes up the majority of the score awarded to the bands. He pointed out that prizes for the winning band included R30 000 worth of musical gear, an acoustic guitar, a cash prize from Rumours, a T-shirt package, and the opportunity of headlining the Squire’s Birthday bash at Rumours next year, headliners at the Winter Wonderland Festival at Rumours. If the winning band is a metal band it will also have the opportunity of headlining the Metal Christmas in July next year. There is also a four-track EP at Man Cave Studios up for grabs, as well as a professional photo shoot which will be part of their publicity campaign.
