Young pupils celebrate heritage
They had a chance to dress up and we invited more than 10 different schools who participated today.
The Roodepoort City Hall was buzzing with excitement as pupils from crèches, daycare centres and kindergarten’s in Roodepoort filled up the hall.
From Nelly’s Kids at Play and Kinderjoy Angels Paradise in Fleurhof to Aunt Vera Preschool, Imani Daycare and Jabulani Daycare in the CBD and Durban Deep respectively, their pupils were dressed in their cultural attire.
This was to honour Heritage Day and teach the pupils about the different cultures in South Africa.
Region C Child Care Officer Grace Konopi, who organized the event said she found young pupils did not know much about the different cultures, traditions and religions the country has to offer.
“I wanted to have this day where the pupils would have fun in a learning environment. They had a chance to dress up and we invited more than 10 different schools who participated today,” she said.
With pupils’ smiles beaming as they had fun, Konopi said she plans to host even more events teaching pupils about culture.
“This was our first time organizing such an event and next year we plan on making it even bigger. We want to encourage parents to join us. We are also advocating for a healthy lifestyle for the pupils and that starts with their parents,” she said.
