SADGA Provincial Day at Ruimsig Country Club

Ruimsig Country Club hosted the South African Disabled Golf Association (SADGA) Provincial Golf Challenge on 13 September, welcoming 22 disabled and deaf golfers, as well as 14 able bodied golfers onto the course.

SADGA’s monthly Provincial Days developed from the need to compete, interact and belong which gives golfers who have reached golf course membership status the opportunity to play at a competitive level and interact with able bodied golfers. SADGA has three provincial teams that battle for national honors, in which 90 per cent of the team members have a golf handicap below 10.

Ruimsig Country Club has hosted the SADGA Provincial Days for over 10 years supporting a provincial and national order of merit that provides the important element of competition. World one-armed champion (2014 and 2015) Reinard Schuhknecht and Christiaan Maasdorp a junior from SAGDA’s First Swing Program were among the golfers to compete in this event hosted at Ruimsig Country Club.

“As golfers with disabilities we are blessed in South Africa with the support from so many golf courses, including Ruimsig Country Club, where we are treated like royalty,” noted Eugene Vorster, CEO of SADGA. “The food and beverage staff at Ruimsig Country Club prepared a table and we hosted our prize giving and had a wonderful time.”

The SADGA better ball was won by Dean Ferreira and Mike van Heerden with 44 points, with Pieter Erasmus and Nardu Malherbe as runners-up on 44 points. Third place was awarded to Raymond Graaff and Herman Bear on 41 points, with Eric Hammer and Flip Brink following in fourth place with 41 points. Finally, Reinard Schuhknecht and Karl Schuhknecht placed fifth position with 40 points.
