Gauteng LSEN ready for action

In the 50-over match, Hoërskool Roodepoort batted first and was bowled out for 196 runs.

The Gauteng LSEN cricket team played a friendly match against Hoërskool Roodepoort this weekend.

The Gauteng team consists of players from Lantern School, Destinata School in Meyerton and School of Achievement in Germiston.

They used the match as preparation for the upcoming National LSEN Cricket Week that will take place in the first week of October in Paarl.

The Gauteng team’s manager Jaco Mitten raved about his team and is looking forward to the upcoming tournament.

“We have a very good team and we are heading to Paarl full of confidence that we will do well. We have won the tournament before and we have an even better side this time. I am proud of the way the players handle themselves,” he said.

In the 50-over match, Hoërskool Roodepoort batted first and was bowled out for 196 runs.

Roodepoort’s Gareth Smith top scored with 33 runs while Gauteng’s Kyle Swanepoel had impressive bowling figures of four wickets for 16 runs with his teammate Daniel Kriege offering assistance with three wickets for 28 runs.

It was then the turn of the Gauteng team to chase down Roodepoort’s score. Their batsman Zane Schaver was the rock which the Gauteng team relied on as he led his team to victory by five wickets. He scored 64 runs in the process, his team managed to score 200 runs. Roodepoort’s Gareth Smith was again in the mix, ending with bowling figures of one wicket for 21 runs.
