POORTVIEW – Wonderland Pre-primary School held a special day for fathers to spend time with their children at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens.
Children from Wonderland Pre-primary School spent some extra time with their fathers at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens on 19 September, giving mothers the morning off. Fathers and their children spent the morning going on a treasure hunt and following the clues that they were given.
Owner of the school Vorweg said that they decided to host this day as fathers did not really get to spend enough one-on-one time with their children and also because fathers were not so eager about coming to school events in the week when they needed to be at work.
“We made a map with clues and the dads went with their children to look for the animals that were hidden in the gardens. The teachers were strategically placed to keep an eye out so nobody can take the clues or treasures home when they found them. Some dads are so competitive that they hide them in difficult places. Or some kids fancy what they find so much that they take it with them,” Vorweg said.
She added that although it was a school function, there were fathers with children who were joined by friends. “It was a fun time for each father to spend time with their children while they followed the clues and searched for what was hidden,” she said.
Vorweg proclaimed the day to be such a success that next year she wants to send out an email to past pupils and invite them to join in for a reunion hunt.
