A resident said she is in constant fear that something terrible might happen due to street lights that have not been working for almost two weeks in the area.
Ester Greenwood said she has reported the faulty street lights in Netbal, Muurbal, Grand Prix, Moss and Fern streets numerous times to City Power but the problem continues.
“There are many elderly people living here. They can never sleep as they are always in fear of possible crime that might occur due the dark streets in our area,” said Greenwood
Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin said he is aware of this problem and has also reported it to City Power.
He said it is important that residents keep their reference numbers once they have reported a problem so that he can then follow up.
“The record of street light maintenance by City Power is abysmal in many cases due to non-action by this entity,” said Tonkin.
He said the dangers of not maintaining streetlights increases crime and endangers road users and pedestrians.
Questions were sent to the spokesperson of City Power, Sydney Mphahlele, and comment is awaited.
