For more than four months street lights on Hendrik Potgieter Road going towards Doreen Road have been on throughout the day and night.
Featherbrooke Estate resident Hendrik Verheem complained that he reported the problem in May this year and City Power has yet to fix it. “We must save on electricity and are punished with load-shedding, but City Power is not following suit,” he said.

Verheem indicated that the lights remained on during the day since April. “Trying to report it is just a waste of time as you get to hold the phone for long periods and then the line goes dead,” he said.
City Power spokesperson Hloni Motloung said the problem was caused by vandalism of timing devices on street lights.
He said the problem was costing the entity millions of rands to replace the equipment. According to Motloung street lights were fitted with timers that switch the lights off during the day and turn them on during the night.
“Recently these timers have been a target of deliberate damage, which has led to the lights illuminating throughout the day and night. This allows criminal syndicates to use these circuits for illegal connections,” explained Motloung.
He concluded that City Power would address the problem.
