Doing their bid to keep Roodepoort clean

Roodepoort Metal Exchange accepts our challenge.

It didn’t take long for Roodepoort Metal Exchange on Albertina Sisulu Road to jump on the We declare war on litter bandwagon after the article appeared in the Record in the 28 August issue.

Human Resource manager Leon du Plooy said they have been keeping the area in front of the business clean for almost four years. “Apart from having a team to pick up all the rubbish in the street twice a day, we have also fixed the pavement, the service road in front of the gates and the drains. We run a business and we don’t want out clients to drive through potholes and see litter everywhere. We are very proud to say our place is neat and tidy,” he said.

The company went a little further and made sure the pavement leading up to the entrance was rid of dead plants and trees. “Roodepoort municipality is pretty much useless. They don’t even empty the skipper bins, we hire a private company to do that. We have also employed a garden service to ensure to grass is kept neat.”

Du Plooy said he challenges other companies to follow suit. “If everybody can keep the area in front of their business clean, Roodepoort will become a nicer place again.”
