Rugby schools series a success

This year’s Roodepoort Rugby Club schools series was a huge success as it concluded this weekend.
Schools from the province such as Hoërskole Jan Viljoen and Krugersdorp, Highlands North High School and Alberton High School.
The tournament, which sees school rugby teams participate made up of grade 11 pupils in the senior team, has been a mainstay competition since 1985.
The Roodepoort community had plenty to cheer for as Hoërskool Roodepoort made it into the finals of Section C, facing off against Hoërskool Fochville.
The close encounter had fans at the edge of their seat, hoping for a home victory but it was not to be.
Roodepoort marginally lost against Fochville 10-16. The plate final went to Highlands North as they beat Kliptown 24-0.
Although Section A’s final did not have a home representative, it was still thrilling as Hoërskool Bekker edged out Hoërskool Alberton 2-0 while home team Hoërskool Bastion lost in the plate final to Hoërskool Riebeeckrand 18-28.
In Section B’s final, Hoërskool Fochville beat Krugersdorp High 46- 2 while Hoërskool Grenswag won the plate final 24-5 against Fourways High School.
In the finals of the U/15 bracket, Bastion were victorious over Queens High School 29-0 while Jan Viljoen beat Randpark High 48-8 in the plate final.
