Exploding transformer injures two at university
RUIMSIG – Exploding transformer at Monash University in Ruimsig leaves two people injured.
Two people sustained severe burns while working on an electrical transformer on the grounds of Monash South Africa University in Ruimsig on the evening of 30 August.
According to Netcare 911 media liaison officer Chris Botha, preliminary reports indicated that the men were working on the transformer when a flash-over occurred.
“Netcare 911 paramedics and their rescue unit arrived at the scene and found that one man had sustained 50 per cent burns while the other sustained 20 per cent burns,” explained Botha.
He said the medical personnel worked fervently to stabilise the men at the scene.
“The critically injured patient was airlifted by helicopter while the other patient was transported by ambulance to a specialised facility for the care they required,” he concluded.
