Roodepoort child welfare needs your support

Help your local welfare in need.

Roodepoort Child Welfare is in desperate need of any donations to help the foster parents who adopt orphans from their organsiation.

The non-proft organisation (NPO) was founded in 1930, and has social workers that ensures children who are in need of care and protection, are provided with a safe environment.

Estelle Odendaal from Roodepoort Child Welfare said although they receive a subsidy from the Government, it only covers part of their salaries.

“We have to raise money to be able to work in the community which is why we are compelled to contact businesses in the Roodepoort area to assist us to protect the vulnerable children in our area of operation,” Estelle said.

A few ways they help orphaned children is by attending children’s court enquiries, providing counselling and adoption fees and placing children in foster care.

The NPO has social workers who offer moral support and care to neglected children and according to Estelle about 90 per cent of the children they see to are orphans.

“Many of the foster parents who adopt the orphans struggle financially and even though they receive a grant, there is a long waiting period they have to go through before they can claim the money,” said Estelle.

She added they will accept any donations from the community such as stationary for the children, food, clothing, blankets, etc.

To make a donation, call their office on 011-271-8700 or visit them at 45 Du Toit Street, Discovery.
