Modern Cinderella theatre production 'Once Upon a Song's' cast steps onto the red carpet.

The premiere of a modern version of the Cinderella theatre production Once Upon a Song was held on 19 August at the Roodepoort Theatre.

Only close friends and relatives were invited to this red-carpet event.

The cast was well-dressed for the occasion.

Director Nicho Barnard said his aim was to create a modern day Cinderella story that the audience could relate to.

“The characters are so diverse that anybody can relate to at least one of them,” said Barnard.

He explained his inspiration for the production came from a film,”I wanted to re-create the well known fairy tale in a modern way.”

The production was about a talented teenager manipulated by her emotionally abusive stepmother and siblings.

Lead actress Chenell Grimsel, who played the modern Cinderella, said although rehearsing for the production was draining, it was also exciting.

Grimsel explained the cast started rehearsing in March.

“We were practising for hours every day. We have put our hearts and souls into this production,”said Grimsel
