‘We declare war on litter’

We have declared war on litter!

The Caxton West Rand (CWR) editorial department has declared war on litter and demands that the communities they serve stop complaining and start picking up litter in their areas.

“We have had enough of seeing litter everywhere we go; in office parks, shopping centres’ parking areas, public places and even our own office building,” Janine Viljoen, Krugersdorp News editor said on behalf of CWR’s editorial team.

This morning, Janine along with her fellow newsroom colleagues, among whom Roodepoort Record editor Roelien Vorster, as well as CWR’s online manager Sonette Reid, staged a coup on litter and demanded that the other departments as well as businesses in the vicinity of the CWR office start cleaning up around them and take a stand against litter – and litterbugs.

Their war cry was loud and clear: “Litter, litter everywhere, help us clean up, Caxton cares!”.

After the protest action, the editorial department challenged the rest of their colleagues to kick off their own clean-up campaigns.

“We neither asked for money nor did we ask for any goods to be collected; all we want is for our colleagues and members of the community to get up from their chairs, bend their backs and pick up around them.”

Janine explained that the saying “charity begins at home” also applied in this regard.

“We always publish other organisations’ efforts to better their communities. Therefore we have decided that a simple act of picking up a piece of paper, can have a rippling effect.

“We challenge, not only our co-workers to start picking up, but also each and every business, organisation, school, institution and individual. Together we can.”

Do you accept the challenge?

Let us know if you and your family or team have made an active decision to start your own clean-up campaign at your home, businesses or community.

“We gladly will cover your cleaning up efforts and let everyone else know that you are making a difference.”
