Doug Murray, Wilro Park wrote about a very real subject and I want to thank and agree with him. The car guards at the shopping centres are doing a fine job. What touched me most was the fact that they could be out on the streets selling drugs, breaking into houses and making a fortune in no time. Instead they chose to stand for long hours in hot and icy weather, looking after our cars and doing a honest day’s work.
They are people with feelings, dreams, a heart and soul, in fact some of them have excellent qualifications, but there is no other work available for them. They have to endure many insults, chased away like animals and not often thanked or tipped. Yet you very seldom hear of a car being stolen from a parking area. In fact, if a car is stolen, they lose their contract with that shopping centre.
I meet once a week with a group of about 16 to 18 guards for a little prayer meeting. I was extremely sad to discover how inferior, rejected and worried they were about their families and their future. They are more than willing to help people with their parcels, trolleys, and very thoughtful towards older people. Of course there are exceptions, but where in life will you find no exceptions.
I have tried, as much as I can, to encourage, build them up and make them feel like people of worth and their gratitude cannot be described. Please give them a thought and realise they are also human beings. How would you feel if you had to earn your living daily the way they do?
