I’m a 63-year-old widow who lives alone in the Florida Lake area.

On the 1 July I had a harrowing experience when my dog started barking insistently. I went out to investigate and saw a plastic bag in my yard, it is impossible for it to have been brought onto my premises due to electric fencing all round. I ran indoors and locked up. The possibility of someone having access to my home became evident and I feared for my life.

I called 10111 out of desperation but felt apprehensive as I’ve heard several negative stories and encounters with the service. To my amazement and absolute relief, the operator answered within seconds, asked for my location and dispatched Florida SAPS.

Within five minutes or less, as I was in a daze, they were at my gate. I’d like to thank Florida SAPS and the 10111 operator for their rapid response and professionalism.
