Residents advised to report all crime incidents
STRUBEN'S VALLEY – Residents need to report all criminal activities.
Ward 97 councillor, Jaco Engelbrecht, advised residents to report all criminal incidents regardless of how small they may be perceived.
He addressed the Sector 3 Community Policing Forum (CPF) meeting at the Struben’s Valley Library on the evening of 8 July.
The new sector executive was also elected.
Engelbrecht said police would increase their resources and effort in the most crime-infested precinct if those criminal incidents were reported.
“Report every little crime and keep the reference number,” he advised.
He said fighting crime was about effective communication between residents.
“Criminals hate areas where the residents communicate,” he added.
The new sector 3 CPF chairperson, Reg Mazibuko, said residents should be active in their communities.
“If we are more organised we can understand our challenges,” Mazibuko said.
He said his vision was to utilise the latest technology to fight crime.
“I will make sure that residents are the eyes and ears of the community. It is the time to establish a resident’s association in Sector 3,” he concluded.
Demitri Nel was elected as the new deputy chairperson, while Jacqueline Coetzee is the new secretary and Carolyn Lanzillotti is the new deputy secretary.
