Bus blaze injures one

ROODEPOORT – A bus driver was injured after a bus caught fire on Hendrik Potgieter Road on 7 July.

An unidentified bus caught fire on Hendrik Potgieter Road on 7 July.

According to ER24 spokesperson Pieter Rossouw, the incident happened at 5pm.

“It is believed that the engine of the bus caught fire and then the driver allegedly pulled over, suspecting that something was wrong,” Rossouw said.

He added that paramedics tried to extinguish the fire, but could not tame it and the bus was then completely engulfed in flames.

“Fortunately there were no passengers in the bus,” he said.

Rossouw said paramedics assessed and transported the bus driver to Flora Clinic for treatment due to smoke inhalation.

“The cause of the incident remains unknown however, local authorities were on scene for investigation,” he said.
