American pastor highlights own hell to inspire churchgoers
Having been a drug user, peddler and gangster himself Pastor Robert Polaco chose heaven above hell.
Life in Santa Fe, the capital of New Mexico in the United States, was enough of a hell for Pastor Robert Polaco to realise he wanted to turn his life around.
This churchgoers heard at a special service on Saturday night 27 June at the Potter’s House Christian Fellowship Church in Florida. American international evangelist Robert took to the podium to speak of his life as a drug user and peddler and gangster in the city.
“My parents were already in a difficult place in life before my conception,” he told the congregation.
His father was an African American man and a prisoner and met his mother, a schizophrenic Spanish woman, during his visit to the psychiatric hospital under state guard to perform tests.
“They met and I was conceived; it was already no life for a child, they couldn’t provide a home for me, being unstable, and I became a ward of the state,” he said.
Robert was moved from one foster home to the next and settled in with a musician couple. There would be parties at their house most week nights and drugs and alcohol were freely available. He started experimenting at a very young age.
“That would have been my life, but it shows you what God can do for a desperate man,” he said.
So Robert continued telling his life tale, hoping to inspire the congregation. His talk was preambled by praise songs and prayers for the church, its community and people in need.
Pastor Jonathan Mphake, Florida branch leader and organiser of the event, came from a tough background himself and said such messages are much-needed in a struggling society like that of Florida.
“I live near Florida Lake myself and see a lot of drugs being dealt there.
“My prayers are with those people and my hope is that, through messages like Robert’s, we’ll inspire and convert more people to the Christian faith.
“God has a plan for everyone and we work to get that message spread,” Mphake said.
