Sarda’s proposed budget for 2016
RUIMSIG — Sarda reflects on previous accomplishments and sets goals for the future.
The South African Riding for the Disabled Association in Gauteng, held their Annual General Meeting on 23 June in Ruimsig.
Katrina Evans, Sarda’s chairperson reflected on the previous year in the chairperson’s report. She said the 2014 golf day was their biggest yet and they continue to work on expanding the organisation’s awareness in Gauteng.
“The Earth Centre in Ruimsig was used as a venue for more corporate events than previously, and there was an increase in the number of riders we were able to assist. The sensory trail has grown with the addition of a horse walking labyrinth, these areas were helped along by extra volunteers.”
Since the start of 2015, two computer science teams from Monash University developed software for the instructors and a database as part of their work experience, this included international students that volunteered as part of the university’s programme.
Evans noted that additional monthly expenses, rising costs and some health issues from the ponies, had put enormous strains on the centre. “A concerted effort needs to be made towards making ourselves more self-sufficient and less dependent on fundraising alone,” she added.
The treasurer’s report showed that monthly expenses remained high with the biggest expenses being on horse healthcare and staff salaries. As a result; a decision was taken that there would not be any large annual increases in the upcoming years.
A proposed budget for the 2016 financial year, included a 10 per cent increase in costs, extra small and small helmets and pony insurance, which would allow for out-rides and taking ponies to shows.
