Proper business acumen passed on to emerging entrepreneurs

ZANDSPRUIT – Heartlines teaches small business owners how to handle their finances.

Formal and informal traders running their businesses in Zandspruit had an opportunity to learn more on business running skills.

The session was hosted by Heartlines, a non-governmental-organisation (NGO) that seeks to change lives of South Africans, by starting value-based conversations that will eventually transform communities.

On 18 June the organisation rendered a presentation to Small Medium Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) which was dubbed Nothing for Mahala.

Introducing the topic, facilitator Olefile Masangane of Heartlines told entrepreneurs in attendance that it was time for them to do a money audit.

“I encourage you to review your attitude toward money. You must evaluate how you spend, borrow and give,” pointed Masangane.

Another important aspect that he talked about to those in attendance was the importance of honesty in earning, after which he shared the shocking statistics of dishonesty.

“Fifty per cent of South Africans have confessed to have paid a bribe in the last 12 months.” Masangane encouraged business owners in attendance to stay away from unethical ways of running their businesses.

One of the small business owners who attended the session, Sophy Seema said she found it very informative and was planning to run her business based on things that she learned.

Seema cooks and sells food at a primary school in Zandspruit. She added that the session was also an eye-opener. “I have been doing so many things wrong but was not aware. I have been spending my profits irresponsibly and was not aware of this,” said Seema. She shared that she will implement everything she learned in the daily running of her business and also her personal finances.
