Duo complete Comrades

There, they both managed finish the race.

Bonnie Posthumus and Dale Rynhoud have participated in more than 100 marathons around the country.

The inspirational figures from the Roodepoort Athletics club competed in races such as Om Die Dam Marathon, Two Oceans Marathon and the recently held Comrades Marathon.

This was Dale’s 26th time crossing the finish line while Bonnie claimed her 19th consecutive finish.

Bonnie, who joined the club in 1997 started running because of her older brother who participated in marathon events during the 80s.

“I love running because of the companionship you get on the road amongst runners. I only run to enjoy myself and meet new people who have the same passion for the sport as I do. As I get older it’s not getting any easier to compete. However, at the end when you cross the finish line, it makes it all worth it,” she said.

With a permanent number in races such as Two Oceans and Three Cranes Marathons, Dale has a wealth of experience when it comes to running.

“At marathon events, you get people who don’t do anything else and are not experience athletes. I have met people who said they will only do the marathon once but have returned yearly. And for me, running is like a natural drug which gives me an amazing feeling. The atmosphere created by the runners makes the experience even better,” he said.
