Fatal crash in Ruimsig
RUIMSIG-A brutal accident between a mini-bus taxi and a BMW leaves a driver dead.
A driver of a minibus taxi has died after being involved in a serious motor vehicle accident with A BMW on 21 June at 6am on Hendrik Potgieter Road near Van Staden Road.

According to ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak, “Around 6am [the paramedics] found the taxi lying partially on the roof of the BMW. Both vehicles had severe damage.” Upon assessment of the taxi driver, the paramedics declared him dead on scene after he succumbed to his injuries. The passenger next to the driver had to be removed from the minibus taxi by the Fire Department and ER24, using several rescue tools. The passenger was treated for serious injuries and is still in a critical condition.
The driver of the BMW was treated for critical injuries after also being extracted out of the car. “A bystander explained to paramedics that a passenger from the BMW allegedly absconded from the scene prior to paramedics’ arrival,” said Vermaak. He added that the area was closed for several hours to allow emergency services to attend to the accident.
