What’s your excuse?

RADIOKOP – Donating blood can help save a life, O’ Hagan’s Rock Cottage will host a blood drive on 20 June to help the South African National Blood Service.

O’ Hagan’s Rock Cottage, Radiokop is putting the challenge forward to all community members, to come out and donate blood on 20 June at their restaurant from 10am to 3pm. They are urging the community to be a hero because it is all in their blood. “If you are healthy and well, there is no excuse for not wanting to save a life. The reason we are doing this is to give back to the community and show that we do care too,” said the owner Theresa Fouché.

In a media release, the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) launched Blood Donor Month starting from 2 June. SANBS CEO Ravi Reddy explained that the service’s target for 2015 is 815 509 units of blood. “We will only achieve this if many of our present donors are able to increase the number of donations they make and if members of the public come forward to replace the donors who have given generously over the years but can no longer do so,” said Reddy.

Reddy further added that the community should remember the sheer range of situations in which blood plays a life-or-death role. He explained that these situations may include child birth, non-emergency surgery, rare blood diseases, cancer treatment and major trauma.

“Any one of us could find that we owe our life to the generosity of a stranger who have given us the gift of blood,” explained Reddy.
