Country Club moves with the times

RUIMSIG — Popular golf club revamps to attract a younger market.

What better way to celebrate Youth Day than to include more child-friendly activities at one of the most prestigious golf clubs in the country?

The Ruimsig Country Club has not only revamped its name but is looking to getting younger people more interested in the many sports offered at the club.

Marketing director at the club Suzette Bower said they are turning the club into a more inclusive facility for the whole family and not just avid golfers.

“The youth is really the future of the club and we want to make them more aware that it is a festive club. We offer golf, football, tennis and bowls and we also have a kiddies centre.”

During the month of June, any young golfer with a paying adult joins for free and can use the facilities for six months, free of charge.

Bower said they also provide training for budding sports enthusiasts, and have different coaches in the sports offered, who often take part in different leagues and divisions.

Golf director, Charles Jerrard said the day was open to all children to experience the facilities and what the club offered.

With more young people changing the faces of sports that were conventionally for ‘old people’, Youth Month seems the perfect time for some much needed spring cleaning.
