Sister duo excel at Canoe Marathon

There, they both earned silver medals with Kamilah in the U/12 age group and Ameerah in the U/10 age group.

The sisterly duo Kamilah and Ameerah Hank have once again excelled in the Inter-provincial canoe races.

They were selected as part of the team to represent Gauteng at the SA Marathon event which was hosted in Pietermaritzburg last week.

As members of the local Florida Lake Canoe Club, the two have had a successful sprint season where they both achieved participation medals in the Gauteng Canoe Union Sprint Championships, and the South African Interprovincial Interschool Sprint Championships earlier in the year.

The Discovery residents achieved second position in the Gauteng Canoe Union Marathon Championships held last month at Homestead Dam, Benoni.

The U/12 paddlers participated in a 6km course race where the young paddlers were exempted from portages (running with boats out of the water), and Kamilah finished her race in a time of 22:27 while Ameerah ‘s time for her silver medal was 24:25.
