Dancing for the love of it

WELTEVREDEN PARK– Meet the extremely talented freestyle dancer Ursula Greer.

Ursula Greer, mother of two, has made immense waves in the dancing community since she was seven years old.

Greer has won many dancing competitions. Some of her earlier accolades have been SA Champs, Gauteng Champs and Dancer of the Year. When Greer was only nine years old she went to the Isle of Wight in England. Here she competed in her favourite style of dance – freestyle, and came second in her category.

Throughout her life she only had one doubt, “When I was about 14 years old I decided to take a break from dancing. However, it didn’t take too long to realise that dancing was in my blood,” said Greer. In her adult career, Greer got the opportunity to participate in the Carousel at Sun City in 1994. After many years of dancing, Greer took an alternate pathway and worked as a choreographer in TV shows – one most notably, the Gladiator Game Show.

From there Greer went on to choreograph shows such as Extravaganza at Carnival City, Sun City and Emperors Palace. One of Greer’s greatest accomplishments was winning the World Championships in the Netherlands for the dance style Adage in 2013. “I find that dancing can be a really fun and extremely exciting career. Although sometimes it can be challenging as you have to fight for your job, and work is not always available,” she said.

After taking some time off to raise her two children, Greer along with her business partner Angelique Christou, have opened up a dance studio at Palm Court in Weltevreden Park called iDance . “If you work hard at something you love, like dancing, you can achieve anything,” she concluded.
