Guard wounded in burglary at Hillfox

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Security guard wounded during a business burglary at Hillfox.

Honeydew detectives are investigating a case of business burglary that occurred at Hillfox Shopping Centre.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs, a security officer was patrolling the centre at about 2.30am on Thursday 4 June when he suddenly heard a loud bang. “The guard then went to investigate and discovered a big hole in front of Cash Converters and also noticed the suspects inside the store,” explained WO Jacobs.

A shoot-out ensued between the security officer and the suspects and the guard was injured during the exchange of fire with the alleged criminals. “The suspects fled the scene in an unknown vehicle and managed to get away with jewellery and camera equipment they stole from the store,” added WO Jacobs.

Operations manager for Yesizwe Security, the guard’s employer, Fred Adams confirmed that their guard was recovering from the slight injury he sustained during the shoot-out with the alleged criminals. “I really want to applaud him for his fearless efforts and for protecting the client’s property. Had he not fought back, the damage and loss could have been worse, especially because of the type of stock that is kept at that place,” said Adams.

No suspects have been arrested and police request anyone with information to contact them on 011 801 8604.
