Cute or scary?

WILGEHEUWEL — Pupils learn and interact with some of the animal world's wonders.

Pupils at Dios Los Ninos Private School in Wilgeheuwel were treated to quite a show from the Mobile Zoo on 4 June.

The annual presentation has been taking place at the school for four years now and is a great way for the pupils to learn about different mammals and reptiles in our respective environments.

The school’s principal, Leonie de Kock said it a great way for the pupils to interact with animals and learn something new.

“The presentations are fun for the children as they get to ask questions and learn different things about the animals.”

Fanie Barnardt, owner of Mobile Zoo, said they work with rescued animals and the live presentations are a great way to teach the pupils.

“The children get to interact with the animals and we teach them about the dangers in and around the home for certain animals. Some of these animals can actually be found in the immediate environment so it is important that they know what to do and how to act.”

The Mobile Zoo has been running for five years and makes its visit to different schools. Barnardt said they modify their presentation depending on where they are going, “If we are presenting in the rural areas for instance, we’d will talk about the animals and superstitions for instance,” he continued. “In areas like these, however, most of these animals are often kept as pets.”

From furry and cute chinchillas to reptiles, the pupils were more than enthusiastic choosing ‘scrary animals’ over ‘cute animals’ any day.
