Sables perform well at bowls open
ROODEPOORT – Sables Association president surprised by talent at Open Masters Tournament on 30 and 31 May.
The 2015 Sables Open Masters Tournament took place on 30 and 31 May at Discovery Bowling Club.
Sables Players Association president, Graeme Morton explained that 12 men and 12 women from within the Sables district was chosen to play in this tournament.
“The format of this tournament was 2 sections of 6 players, each playing the other in order to determine the section winner. Three games took place on 30 May and two games took place on 31 May with the two section winners facing off against each other to take the gold, while second and third placed competitors battled it out for the silver and bronze medals,” explained Morton.
He added that the greens were fantastic and he said the quality of the game was amazing as some of the competitors showed impressive skills.
“The 2015 Sables Masters Open Men’s winner was Wilson Malobolo from Witpoortjie Bowling Club followed by three very talented players from Roodepoort: Mervin Lynn, Morgan Muvhango and Corrie Tagg who took second, third and fourth spots respectively. The women who stood out from Roodepoort were Rika Lynn, Nici Neal and Karen Johnston who took second, third and fourth spots respectively, and the overall winner was Susan Nel from Rustenburg Impala Bowling Club who took the gold medal,” concluded Morton.
