The evacuation of Witpoortjie Pick n Pay late yesterday afternoon had the community’s tongues wagging.
On social media platforms such as Facebook some participants seemed to either have misunderstood the initial report or to have commented on hearsay.
The Pick n Pay management could today indeed confirm that there was no fire and that the excessive smoke was caused, as initially reported, by the malfunctioning of the air conditioning system’s compressor. They also indicated there were no injuries or damage to stock or property.
Trading swiftly resumed after the emergency services gave the go-ahead.
