Theunis and Cornelius streets have been degrading slowly for the last four years, while Ward 89 councillor Ingrid Reinten fought for these roads to be repaired.
She was surprised when a Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) team pitched up and started repairing the unmaintained roads.
“These roads have been deteriorating for the last four years and time and time again I have complained to JRA but nothing ever happened until about three weeks ago when they started to repair the roads.”
She continued and said Cornelius Street is used mostly over weekends as there are five churches in the surrounding area that the road allows access to.
“It took the JRA team about two days to completely re-tar these roads and they both are extremely smooth now.”
Reinten continued and said that the roads still need to have the lines painted on them.
“There is still tar and other materials next to Cornelius that the entity promised to pick up within this week. I have to thank JRA for sending out a team and it shows you what can be done in such a short matter of time,” concluded Reinten.
