Illegal dumping ground in Allens Nek

ALLENS NEK — Illegal dumping grounds are perfect for suspects to find their next targets.

Residents in Allen’s Nek have been burdened with illegal dumping of rubbish on Kiewiet Street.

Chairperson of the resident’s association in the area, Tony Wilkinson said the long grass in the open field has made it easy for rubbish to be dumped and left there.

“Besides the fact that it is a health issue, it also poses a danger. People [who] are having their rubbish collected by a specific refuse removal company do not know that their rubbish is being dumped here. So, criminals can come here and go through their trash which has all their personal information, such as receipts. We have found bank statements with people’s addresses,” he said.

Ward 126 Councillor, Mike Tonkin said he knew of the dumping and that the city has a major problem of people dumping in that open area.

“It is not just the local residents [who] come and dump there but people from adjoining suburbs. When City parks cuts the grass, their equipment often gets damaged because of what they find in there,” he said
