Sables Singles Championship a success

Mark played in the final against Tony Doyle from Ruimsig Bowling Club last weekend.

The quarter finals, semi-finals and finals of the Sables Men’s and Ladies Singles Championships was hosted at the Florida North Bowling Club.

“All the participating players arrived early on Sunday morning and it was evident we were in for some very exciting bowls. It was fantastic to see a few new faces in the last eight of this year’s Sables Singles championships. The bowlers had played extremely well by winning their respective round robin sections and progressing through to the knock-out stages,” said Sables Players Association President Graeme Morton.

In the Open Men’s Final, Graeme Morton from Ruimsig Bowling Club played against Jaco van Deventer from Krugersdorp Bowling Club.

“The first couple of ends were very tightly contested and at the end of the game, after playing 26 ends in total, I pushed through and was crowned as the 2015 Sables Open Men’s Singles Champion,” said Graeme.

The Ladies Open Final saw Nici Neal, from Leases Bowling Club up against Amanda Beekman from Ruimsig Bowling Club.

Nici was awarded the title as Sables Open Ladies Champion for 2015.

“The conditions of the greens were outstanding and all credit needs to go to the green keepers and Committee at Florida North. I must give gratitude to our sponsor Perfect Delivery for all their support within the district. Although the Sables Singles Championship was not a title sponsor for Perfect Delivery, their ambassador, JJ Bedford-Owen was present and presented the finalists with their prizes.

President of Sables Bowls Dave Parker congratulated all the players and thanked Florida North Bowling Club for hosting the event.
