Jodie shines at African Championships
AMOROSA– Local triathlete flies the South African flag high at African Championships as she walks away the winner.
A 19-year-old triathlete from Amorosa has bagged another title under her arm. Jodie Berry recently competed at the Troutbeck African Triathlon Championships that were held in Nyanga, Zimbabwe.
Berry came first in the elite women’s category where she competed against six other –three South Africans, two Zimbabweans and one from Mauritius.
The outstanding performance rendered by Berry saw her climb through the world rankings of the International Triathlon Union, (ITU). She received 200 points and moved to number 187 on the rankings. Challenging as the course was, Berry said she is thrilled with her performance as she competed against some of the top guns in the industry. At the moment, the champion is preparing for the 2015 Sharm El Shaik African Triathlon Championships and Pan Arab Championships that will take place on 9 May in Egypt. “I’m hoping to do well and also qualify for the world championships coming up later in the year,” she said.
