City says limiting will keep lights on today

Although Eskom has announced stage one load shedding for the whole country today, the City of Johannesburg has vowed to keep its lights on.

This comes after Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown on Wednesday said South Africans should brace themselves for a tough two years ahead. This past week has already seen three days of stage two load shedding phasing into stage three shedding.

The City hoped its new load limiting system will be enough to keep the lights on today by monotoring Smart Meters and informing customers via sms to reduce usage or face cuts.

Its believed this will save the City a mammoth 153MW and thereby avoid residents falling victim to the rolling black-outs.
