Michael and Rachel Pereira are siblings with more talent than sibling rivalry.
The two recently rounded up a number of awards at the Talent Africa nationals that were held at the Roodepoort Theatre (Promusica) in Florida Park.
No stranger to the stage, Michael also competes in the National Eisteddfodd school competition.
The pupils from Trinityhouse Preparatory Little Falls will join team South Africa as they jet off to the Big Apple to compete in the international round of Talent America in June.
“I have the privilege to see these two very talented pupils grow annually. Little Michael (Grade 1) started repeating all the words at the age of three. I suggested to his mother to enrol him at the local eisteddfod for a four-line poem. Well, at the age of four, he went on stage and since then there is just no stopping this little boy,” said their drama teacher, Linda Theron.
“He performed monologues from Toy Story and his dramatic monologue from Sixth Sense was awesome.”
She added that Rachel (Grade 5) is very dedicated and studies her lines and performs her pieces with the utmost planning.
“She has performed monologues and parts from Alice in Wonderland. I am proud to say they are part of my studio.”
Both Michael and Rachel were awarded their Gauteng colours, SA colours, certificates, medals and trophies as follows: Michael three gold medals, two silver medals; Rachel six gold medals and three silver medals.
They were also part of a group that won the Overall Best Junior Group.
