Roodepoort’s Tharina crowned Miss Rand Show

Dressed in gorgeous evening wear the dazzling Tharina Botes, 18, was crowned Miss Rand Show at this year’s show pageant.

Some of Gauteng’s most beautiful peoples strutted their stuff on the Rand Show Spice of Life Stage on Saturday 4 April in hopes of being awarded the most glamourous title. Tharina got it in front of an enthusiastic audience of show visitors and Tayla Robinson and Bo-Dean Peters were chosen as the first and second runners-up, respectively.

Modelling is her passion, Tharina said in a recent interview. It seems to be her forte as the girl has a number of beauty titles to her name, also reigning as Miss Gauteng Teen and Miss Northern Gauteng. Her eye is on the Miss SA-title someday, she said, and she dreams of becoming a Victoria’s Secret (lingerie) model.

She is a pupil of Hoerskool Monument in Krugersdorp and is currently competing for the Miss Matric Experience 2015 title, representing her school. She also recently judged at the Miss Bergbron pageant.

Tharina is deeply involved in charity work for children’s homes, elderly residents and is passionately involved in projects for the upliftment of women. Apart from pursuing a modelling career, Tharina is keen on travelling. Her win at the Rand Show will aid in this passion as she won a trip for two to Mauritius, courtesy of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority of South Africa, said Meg Houghton of SA Shows. She also won a cash prize and various hampers.

Her advice to other hopeful pageant girls is to never give up and to keep believing in oneself.

“With hard work, determination and God on your side, you can accomplish anything,” she said.
