Monster Factory

Seven athletes from Monster Factory Gym were qualified to be part of the South Africa national squad heading to Finland and Canada this year.

This comes after they participated in the SA Unequipped Powerlifting Championships held in Potchefstroom last week.

Juan Meyer competed in the 120 kilogram-plus Master 1 division and finished second.

In the junior ladies 57 kilogram, Stacey Bryant won.

In the junior ladies 84 kilogram, Leandrè Swart won the division while Tammy Goosen came in second position.

In the junior men 105 kilogram division, Andrè Kloppers finished in second position.

Zander Kloppers finished fifth in the junior men 93 kilogram division.

In the senior men 105 kilogram, Sarel Gadney finished fourth.

JP Swart won the sub-junior men division.

In the master 1 ladies 84 kilogram division, Susan Kloppers won while Andrew Gearing broke records in the squat, bench, deadlift and total score as he won the men’s master 1 division.

Player-coach Matthew Cosmo competed in the 120 kilogram master 1 division.

While doing the deadlift, he tore his ligament on his right leg and dislocated his knee. However, he refused to give up and his attitude saw him win his division.

“I can’t teach my pupils to give up so I had to do it,” he said.

The Monster Factory Gym will now prepare Gauteng Powerlifting Championships that will be held at the Black Eagle Guesthouse in Ruimsig on 18 April.

This will be the first time the West Rand has hosted such an event.
