ROBIN HILLS – The King's School Robin Hills pupils give up an important part of clothing for charity.

Pupils at [The King’s School Robin Hills shed their shoes for their annual No Shoe Day on 30 March.

The campaign has been running for more than four years and is organised by Taylor Tonkin and Ryan Barrett, who are both matric pupils this year. Tonkin said they organise this as part of the community service team.

“We noticed that there were a lot of people without shoes and so as winter is approaching, we got together and started to collect shoes to donate. Today we are going to draw a shape and then fill it with shoes we have collected,” said Tonkin.

Barrett said the motive behind No Shoe Day was also for the pupils to experience life as someone who does not have enough for a pair of shoes.

“They get to have this day in the life of someone who doesn’t have shoes and that is very humbling. The pupils can bring a pair of shoes as donation or they can make a cash donation.”

Pupils from the pre-school to the high school all took part, and brought different kinds of shoes to be donated to [Kids Haven https://www.kidshaven.org.za/] in Bryanston.

Kids Haven is an NGO that reaches out to children living on the streets and strives to provide shelter and nurturing. The organisation provides guidance, therapy and support to help the children back into the community.
