Two street vendors arrested for serious crime

RANDPARK RIDGE – Street vendors arrested for fraud, assault and drug dealing.

Street vendors may not be as innocent as you think. So says Greg Pearce, Honeydew Sector 1 Community Policing Forum chairperson and CEO of Community Support Services. According to him, Honeydew Police and his security company found two wanted men during a greenbelt operation in the veld near the corner of Beyers Naudé Drive and Jim Fouché Road, Randpark Ridge, recently.

They were connected to serious crimes with a fingerprint machine, and were arrested afterwards. One of the men, selling air-conditioner refilling, was wanted for fraud in the East Rand and assault in Honeydew. The other man, selling wooden trellises, was wanted for drug dealing. “These guys [street vendors] may not be innocent people trying to make a living,” Pearce said, adding that residents should not support street vendors.

Questions were sent to Honeydew Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs regarding the arrests and comment is awaited.
