Prayer + Action = Safety
RANDBURG – The Northern Taxi Liaison Committee hosted a successful prayer service at the Randburg Taxi Rank aimed at ensuring safety during the Easter weekend.
The Northern Taxi Liaison Committee hosted a successful Road Safety Easter weekend prayer at the Randbank Taxi Rank on 26 March.
NTLC’s deputy chairperson Charles Moloto said since they started praying for road safety, the carnage has become low.
“We saw it as important to do this prayer, we must respect our passengers and ensure that we pray for safety,” he said.
“In Randburg we don’t condone drunk and driving and we also don’t allow our drivers to drive unroadworthy taxis.”
Colonel Aresh Maharaj from the Honeydew cluster said the police and taxi drivers should build a closer bond.
“I am in awe at the moment, what the communtity is doing is amazing and this should become national,” said Col Maharaj.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Public Safety Councillor Sello Lemao agreed. “People always want the government to do things for them, but I am really pleased that the community came together and they are doing things on their own and calling the government to come witness what they are doing,” Lemao said.
Lemao also made a pledge to the taxi association that next year his department will be hands on in organising the event properly.
“Just one death on our roads is one too many, we as the community can save our lives, by just changing our attitude and behaviour in order to become a resilient society,” added Lemao.
