South Africa is a very unique place and its people are even more unique.
Our country is riddled with crime, we have a dysfunctional government and our education system is very poor, but somehow South Africans always seem to find the humour in the worst situations.
When something tragic happens or when there is chaos in Parliament, you can expect some kind of joke surrounding the event to start circulating on social media within minutes.
For example, there are tons of jokes about the Oscar Pistorius case and SONA 2015, including some great cartoons.
South Africans always seem to see the brighter side. Not to say we are not all worried about crime and the lack of proper governance, I think there is just so much bad stuff, that if we didn’t make jokes about it, we would all go insane.
Sometimes the jokes are cruel, but when you really think of it, isn’t it better to laugh than to cry? I prefer to laugh about things.
I know the rest of the world probably looks at us and feels sorry for us, but being the “unique” nation that we are, we don’t care what other countries think of us.
I think having a good sense of humour is a great trait to have and I am proud to be in a country where other people share this sense of humour.
Laughter soothes the soul. KEEP CALM AND JUST LAUGH.
